Our Story

As the founder of Swan Academy Homeschool, a homeschool mom-run resource center, my journey began long before my son was even born. I had always dreamed of homeschooling him, envisioning an education tailored to his unique spirit and needs. But life took an unexpected turn when I became a single parent after my husband's passing. Suddenly, the idea seemed impossible—how could I manage it all alone? Boy, was I wrong.

I knew public school wasn't the right fit for us, so I turned to our local parochial school, hoping for compassion amid my son's grief and a more classical education structure that emphasized depth and wisdom. Instead, I was met with disappointment on every front. My son struggled through third grade, trying to conform to a cookie-cutter curriculum that felt designed for no one in particular. It ignored his individuality, his pain, and his innate love for learning. The breaking point came when the principal casually suggested I "just find a doctor who will put him on medications." That was it—I was done. My child adored discovering the world, and they were extinguishing that spark.

A few months into homeschooling, I knew we'd found our perfect path. Yet, as we delved deeper, I realized a glaring gap: no curriculum truly equipped him with actual life tools. His history workbooks were riddled with inaccuracies and, quite frankly, bored him to tears. So, I started creating my own—vibrant social studies and history lessons that brought the past alive with relevance and excitement.

As time passed, conversations with other parents revealed a common longing: many wished they could homeschool but felt incapable of doing it alone, while others craved more community to combat isolation. This inspired me to build Swan Academy—a welcoming space that offers families comprehensive support throughout the homeschooling process, from legal guidance to personalized curricula. We emphasize a hands-on, parent-involved approach because most families choose homeschooling to actively engage with their children's education, not to plug them into a computer screen.

Today, Swan Academy stands as a testament to resilience and possibility, providing the tools, community, and classical methodology that I once sought.
